I hiked Iceland’s iconic Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails in four days, covering over 50 miles through otherworldly landscapes—lava fields, glaciers, rivers, and waterfalls. Levon, Matthew, and I had a relaxed day in Colorado, exploring Lime Creek Rd and Adrenaline Falls. Despite the frigid water, I took a refreshing swim. We then planned an early start to hike up Engineer Mountain, but the threat of storms led us to alter the plan. We resupplied in Durango and geared up for the Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway.
This post recounts a road trip from North Carolina to Colorado and various stops along the way. The journey included camping mishaps, a visit to Mount Magazine, exploration of attractions in New Mexico, and a challenging dirt road.
